India has a coastline of 5500 km, as a result it has many beaches on both sides of the penninsular. Considering the total beach area India has, Indian beaches are very under-utilized as tourist spots. Some beaches that have become popular attract international travellers. There are some private beaches developed by star hotels and some beaches are away from the population and are therefore comparable with the best beaches in the world. Yet there are other beaches, that though very popular with local tourists, are ill maintained and are far from utilizing their full potential. The white sand beaches in Andaman with turquoise waters and sublime marine life and the gorgeous and enchanting beaches of Lakshadweep are world class, but are less crowded.
